Michael D'Ignazio, born in Peekskill, New
York, took an interest in art in his last year in high school,
when his art teacher encouraged
him to pursue his studies in that
filed. His only formal training was
one year at the Art Student League
in New York City. He professes to
be self-taught.
He never belonged to any art
organization or won any prizes,
until he moved to Whiting about
six years ago and joined the
Crestwood Artists' Guild. He can't
say enough good things about his
fellow members. They are so
helpful and encouraging, thus
giving you self-confidence.
Michael's philosophy about
painting is "Artists are a group of
"Artists are a group of people who put their
feelings down on canvas, and say to the rest
of the world, 'here I am, whether you like me
or not.'"
people who put their feelings
down on canvas, and say to the
rest of the world, 'here I am,
whether you like me or not.'"
He paints what he feels, the ideas
are completely his own. His
paintings are not copies of other
works or photographs, but from
his heart and mind. His colors and
strokes are bold. He prefers to
work with acrylics. His idols are
Monet and Van Gogh.
